Where Winds Meet drops its Version 2.2 update, "Perilous Eminence," on September 16, bringing the curtain down on the game's Hidden Mountain main storyline less than a year after its international launch.
The update caps a story arc called "Bringer of Embers," split across two chapters — "A Bitter Winter & Sea of Sunfire" and "Reckoning with Qianye" — that NetEase and developer Everstone Studio have been building toward since the Hidden Mountain content line kicked off earlier this year.
What Version 2.2 changes
Perilous Eminence isn't just a story finale. The patch also introduces a new game mode alongside the closing chapters, and it follows closely on the heels of a new combat style that arrived September 3 — meaning players get two significant systemic additions within roughly two weeks of each other heading into the update.
The servers hosting the game's central hub area, the Eastwind Pavilion, will go down for a maintenance window on September 16 from 05:00 to 10:00 (UTC+8) to deploy the update, a routine but necessary step given how much narrative and systems content is landing at once.
A new Battle Pass tier, called "Chilled Current," goes live once the patch deploys and will remain purchasable and completable through October 15.
A fast content cadence since launch
Where Winds Meet launched internationally in November 2025 and has reportedly drawn more than 80 million players worldwide since, expanding through two prior major expansions before this one. NetEase has kept up an aggressive release rhythm, shipping a major version roughly every 11 to 13 weeks — a pace closer to what live-service shooters run than what most open-world RPGs attempt.
What's landing around this update:
- Version 2.2: Perilous Eminence, live September 16
- Conclusion of the Hidden Mountain main story ("Bringer of Embers," 2 chapters)
- A new game mode
- New combat style, live since September 3
- Battle Pass Set "Chilled Current," available through October 15
- Eastwind Pavilion maintenance window, 05:00–10:00 UTC+8 on September 16
For a game barely ten months into its international run, wrapping an entire named story arc this quickly is a statement of intent: NetEase isn't treating Hidden Mountain as filler content to stretch out, it's treating it as one chapter in a series it clearly plans to keep writing at speed.
